IG reshuffles top police ranks as six senior officers moved
Kanja named the Director of Operations at the Police Headquarters, Adamson Bungei, as the new head of the Kenya National Focal Point on Small Arms and Light Weapons.
The Inspector General of Police, Douglas Kanja, has instituted changes at the National Police Service (NPS), naming the Director of Operations at the Police Headquarters, Adamson Bungei, as the new head of the Kenya National Focal Point on Small Arms and Light Weapons.
The changes affected at least six senior positions following the retirement of some officers and in a bid to enhance police operations across the affected regions.

Bungei took over from Jacinta Muthoni, who exited the service upon her retirement.
At the same time, Central Regional Police Commander Samuel Ndanyi has been moved to the Rift Valley in a similar capacity.
He swaps positions with the current Rift Valley Regional Police Commander, Jasper Ombati, who now moves to Central in the same capacity.
Isiolo County Police Commander Paul Wambugu moves to the National Police Leadership Academy in Ngong. He is replaced by Isaac Sang, the officer in charge of Sports at Vigilance House
On her part, Donatha Kiplagat, the Deputy Director of Training at NPS, heads to the Police Training College in Kiganjo to serve as the deputy commandant. The Deputy Commandant of Traffic at the Police Headquarters, Tom Okoth, takes over as the new officer in charge of Sports at Vigilance House.
The changes come days after President William Ruto launched the Jukwaa La Usalama report and tabled the National Security Report before parliament, documents that outlined his administration's security priorities.
On Tuesday, the president directed that all police officers in the rank of Constable who are aged 50 years and above be promoted, as the IG issues promotion guidelines for other ranks.
At the same time, he directed that no officer will be transferred within one year of a previous transfer without considering their social situation.
Equally, no officer will serve in an operational area for more than three years, and those who are aged 50 years and above will be transferred closer to home.
Meanwhile, former Police Spokesperson Charles Owino has been reinstated to the National Police Service and formally seconded to the Office of the National Government Spokesperson.
